Arrest made in alleged homicide

PARKER COUNTY -- Parker County sheriff's officials have arrested a 24-year-old man on a charge of murder.

Nicholas David Camfield, whose address is listed only as North Main, is in Parker County Jail this morning awaiting arraignment on the charge.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said deputies responded to a welfare call request around 11:30 p.m. in the 200 block of Valley Meadows Drive near Springtown.

The caller stated a friend had been missing and requested sheriff’s deputies to conduct a security check on the welfare of his friend, who was known to be with Nicholas Davis Camfield, 24, of Weatherford.

Deputies responding reportedly discovered Camfield, who was covered in blood, inside the residence.

Sheriff's officials said Camfield told them he was house sitting at the residence for a third party, who was not present.

Deputies reportedly discovered a deceased male victim, apparently in his 20s, covered with a blanket in the master bedroom of the home.

“This was a particularly brutal homicide,” Fowler said in a press release issued this morning.

Investigators said Camfield told them during an interview that he used a pickaxe during the commission of the murder, and that he was an acquaintance of the victim.

Sheriff’s CID investigators are working with the Texas Rangers in the investigation. A motive for the killing was unclear.

The victim’s name is being withheld upon notifying the next of kin. The victim was taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. The official determination of death is pending autopsy results.

Further information about the murder is also being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.

As of Thursday morning, Camfield remained incarcerated at the Parker County Jail on a charge of murder. No bond has not been set.
