— It’s a great weekend to get a new friend at the Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter, and shelter officials are willing to make it worth your while.
Interim Shelter Director Dustin Deel said the shelter is offering a $25 adoption special now through Saturday, April 20, which includes spaying, neutering, all vaccinations including rabies and a microchip. Deel said the shelter had been offering a $40 adoption special through the month of March but recent rains had cut the amount of people going through the shelter to see the animals.
“For some reason, people don’t like to come out when it’s wet, which slows the adoption rate but the people still bring their animals here,” Deel said. “We’re back to being full again.”
The special is in addition to the $20 cat and kitten adoption special on Wednesdays and Fridays to help alleviate the burgeoning feline population. That price will be honored Wednesdays and Fridays during the current special.
The shelter is located at 409 Hickory Lane in Weatherford. Shelter hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.
In addition, the Weatherford Starbucks on Friday announced it is collecting donations of supplies for the animal shelter. The store is accepting donations of dog and puppy food, cat and kitten food, paper towels, trash bags, multi purpose cleansers, detergent and bleach. Donations can left in a collections box placed in the lobby through May 15. The store is not accepting monetary donations on behalf of the shelter.
