Shelter offers ‘name your price’ kittens

Weatherford Democrat

— In an attempt to alleviate a recent influx of cats and kittens, Weatherford/Parker County Animal Shelter is taking a page from the Priceline philosophy: name your own price.

Interim Director of Animal Services Dustin Deel announced earlier this week the shelter has set dates for the name your own price promotion, which he had announced earlier this month at a shelter advisory committee meeting.

The promotion is scheduled for Friday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the shelter, located on Hickory Drive in Weatherford.

Deel said every year during the spring mating season, the shelter is overrun with cats and this is a way of getting those numbers down. The promotion is good for both adult cats and kittens.

All adoptions come with the spay or neuter surgery, all vaccinations, dewormer and a microchip. Deel at the meeting said if the promotion is successful, consideration of opening it to dogs as well will be considered.
