Vietnam museum fundraiser March 29

Event taking place at Parker County Sheriff’s Posse grounds

On Saturday, March 29, The National Vietnam War Museum’s Friends of the Museum will host the 13th annual spring fundraiser at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse in Weatherford.

As with previous fundraisers, there will be both a silent and live auctions, with fun auctioneer Paul Wibbeler, of Hoot’s Auction Company, doing his best to separate the guests from their money in a most entertaining way.

Activities begin at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and the silent auction, with music by Cindy Renee & Company, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A buffet dinner, served by Aaron’s Catering, begins at 7 p.m., with carved beef tenderloins as the main course.

During the fundraiser, the museum will be formally announcing the new U.S. Navy garden, the centerpiece of which will be a memorial to the USS Frank E. Evans.

“We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping with work on this garden as well as suggestions for an official name,” said Edd Luttenberger, a board director for the non-profit museum organization.

Fundraiser tickets are $50 in advance or $60 at the door (if available).

The Parker County Sheriff’s Posse is located at 2251 Mineral Wells Highway (U.S. Highway 180) on the west side of Weatherford. The museum site is located along U.S. Highway 180 in western Parker County, just east of Mineral Wells. Look for the tilted Huey helicopter just past the pedestrian bridge and Maddux Road.

Plans are to build a museum dedicated to telling the entire story – from all sides – of the Vietnam War, but millions of dollars must be raised. To date, the site includes a Visitor’s Center, several static displays of Vietnam War-era equipment, several gardens and the centerpieces, a replica Camp Holloway Wall and a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, which includes a searchable kiosk of the more than 58,000 names inscribed on its panels. The half-sized replica wall is ceremoniously updated with new names after the official wall in Washington, D.C., is updated.
