Two more small earthquakes reported

Weatherford Democrat

The icy weather didn’t stop two more small earthquakes, as large a magnitude as any reported so far, from shaking the Parker County area over the weekend.

The 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck northwest of Azle struck after midnight Sunday, followed by a 3.7 magnitude earthquake north of Mineral Wells near the Parker County line shortly before 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Approximately 20 earthquakes have rattled the northeast part of Parker County since Nov. 5, including two prior 3.6 magnitude earthquakes.

Two others, 2.8 and 3.6 in magnitude, occurred north of Mineral Wells on Nov. 28.

Experts aren’t sure what is prompting the sudden rash of earthquakes in the area but some believe injection wells may play a part.
