Weatherford Blooms April 27

It’s the time of year where a (wo)man’s fancy turns to ... BLOOMS.

Plans continue for the annual Weatherford Blooms Festival is set for Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the downtown square. Main Street and Special Event Coordinator Kim Thieme said things are setting up nicely for a great day.

“We’re finishing up with our entertainment right now,” Thieme said. “This is always a very well received event because a lot of people are into gardening, but it’s so much more than that.”

Members of the Parker County Master Gardeners are only one of the nearly 100 vendors expected for the event. The Master Gardeners are coming off their plant sale last weekend and are ready to spread their wealth of knowledge to amateurs trying to beautify their home. Many different types of flowers, plants and shrubs will be available for purchase along with advice on how to care for them.

Some of the entertainment will include musicians and a clogging group along with the always popular antique tractor display which received positive response at last year’s event. The kids area will get children into gardening as well.

“We have different stations where kids can learn how to plant a seed or other fun things about gardening,” Thieme said. “For the first time this year, we’re going to have a bounce house as well.”

The event is not only about plants and flowers. There will also be opportunities to get indoor and outdoor remodeling tips. Thieme said the downtown event also provides a chance to take advantage of the downtown shops and restaurants.

“It’s really a win-win for everyone,” Thieme said. “Businesses have a chance to have crowds of people come and check out what they have to offer and everyone has a chance to hopefully enjoy the weather and beautify their home.”

A new feature of the event will involve tours of the historic Parker County Courthouse throughout the day. Tours will be given at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. courtesy of the county.
