Annual Casino Night fundraiser this Saturday

Saturday is the date for the 13th Annual Raffle Night with Casino Games fundraiser for the Weatherford Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.

This event is held each February at the Senior Center in Weatherford, 1225 Holland Lake Drive. This year’s event takes place 6-10 p.m.

Each year the event offers blackjack, craps, roulette, Bingo, Texas Hold ‘Em and prize wheels, not to mention great raffle items and food.

The economy may be tough, but numerous business people have stepped up to make this year’s event possible by sponsoring tables, donating items and money to make the event enjoyable by everyone. Sponsors include Grogan Family Foundation, Sargent’s Wrecker Service, Jerry Durant Auto Group, Grand Prairie Airhogs and Kohl’s.

This year’s event will have many raffle items to choose from including Dallas Stars tickets, Sea World San Antonio, two-night stay at the Eldorado Resort Casino Shreveport and many other items. Funds from this annual event are used according to the non-profit bylaws of the group, which is in a manner to support the Weatherford Police Department.

In 2001, the first casino night was hosted by the WCPAAA, which paid someone else to come and bring their equipment and dealers. From that event forward, the WCPAAA has purchased its own equipment and provides local dealers. Prepare to be wowed as updated tables and poker chips and being unveiled this year.

You can expect to have fun and be well entertained, and there is no need to have any knowledge of gaming, the dealers will take the time to teach you how to play the games. There will be several levels of dealers from the most basic to the most advanced.

Tickets for the annual event are $10 per person and includes $10,000 in play money, as well as a raffle ticket and drink. Advance tickets and old cell phones earn extra raffle tickets. You must be at least age 18 to attend.

  • Jordan Paredes Weatherford boy dies following wreck near Brock

    A 16-year-old Weatherford teen injured in a single-vehicle wreck near Brock last week died Tuesday afternoon at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner. 

    Jordan Paredes, reported by relatives to be in a coma following the wreck, was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m. in the trauma intensive care unit, the medical examiner reported.

    At a regular Hudson Oaks City Council meeting Thursday, Hudson Oaks Assistant City Administrator Chad Janicek presented the proposed fiscal year 2015 budget. As a part of the proposal, Janicek presented the council with proposed water utility rate increases, some of which, if approved, would take effect at the beginning of the 2015 fiscal year in October. The second half would take effect in the coming years, still to be determined. As a result, the proposed rate adjustment will occur in two phases.
