LIPAN – A Dennis man on his way to work was killed around 6 a.m. Friday in a head-on crash near Lipan.

Wyatt William Carter, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving struck an oncoming pickup on FM Road 1189 northeast of Lipan in Hood County.

According to information provided by DPS, a 2002 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Carter had reportedly just crested over a hill while traveling westbound in the oncoming lane when it hit a 2009 Chevrolet pickup driven by Lawrence “LR” Randal Bishop, 46, of Lipan.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene by a Hood County justice of the peace.

Bishop was taken by helicopter to a Fort Worth hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to DPS.

Both men were reportedly wearing seatbelts.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor, according to DPS Senior Trooper Dub Gillum, though authorities haven’t determined why Carter was traveling on the wrong side of the road.
