School bond PACs file financial reports

FROM STAFF REPORTS

With a $107.32 million Weatherford ISD school bond package before voters, a combined $26,000 has been raised and $18,000 spent by two groups working on opposite sides of the proposition, according to the latest election financial reports filed by the two registered political action groups.

The school district has proposed the bond to pay for a slate of capital improvements including

adding a new ninth grade wing to the high school to ease crowding and allow for re-configuration of elementary and secondary campuses; security and technology enhancements, including a new Career and Technology Center; and athletics facilities additions and improvements.

Through its treasurer, Kim McDonald, the PAC Citizens Against WISD Bond on Friday filed a campaign report, for the period beginning April 11, claiming $11,200 in contributions and $6,244 in expenses.

Among the top contributors listed by the PAC were Gary Jordan, attorney, $5,000; Jerry Clinton, real estate broker, $1,000; Stan Stanislav, $1,200; MF & JR investments (Melvin Frysinger), $2,000; and John Rapkock, real estate, $600.

The opposition PAC listed J&J Rental as spending $2,800 on newspaper ads, according to a previous report.

The pro-bond PAC Weatherford ISD Bond PAC filed reports in April and May 2 through its treasurer, Dave Deison, claiming combined total contributions of $14,780 and expenses totaling $12,421.

Among the pro-PAC’s top contributors listed were Jerry’s GM LLC, $5,000; Southwest Ford, $5,000; Jerry’s, $3,000, and James Duncan, realtor, $250.

Both groups provided lists of smaller contributors.

Early voting in the May 11 city council and school board elections ended Tuesday. Election Day is Saturday. Polls will be open across the county 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Besides a slate of contested board races and the WISD bond election, both the Brock and Peaster ISDs have bond proposals before their districts’ voters, and voters in Emergency Services District 1 and the Aledo fire district will decide a proposed annexation issue.
