Voters soundly defeat Weatherford ISD bond proposal

From Staff Reports

By a 7-3 margin, voters in the Weatherford ISD soundly defeated the district's proposed $107.32 million bond proposal, according to final tallies released Saturday evening by the Parker County Elections Office.

Early voting numbers posted just after the polls closed at 7 p.m. Saturday had the proposition being defeated by a 64 percent to 36 percent margin. With 6,064 ballots cast during the county's early voting period, 3,769 early ballots were cast early in the WISD bond election.

The opposition's margin would slightly grow larger during the evening.

Not final results:

In the contested WISD school board races, Place 3 incumbent Ashely Duncan Conlon received 46 percent of the early votes to 36 percent for Philip Newkirk and 19 percent for Randy Hynes (rounded up).

In the Place 4 WISD trustees election, incumbent Gail Wirtanen received 52 percent of the early votes to 48 percent for Jeromy Puckett.

In the WISD Place 5 race, incumbent Charlie Martinez received 51 percent of the early votes to 49 percent for challenger Joshua Tarbay.

Peaster ISD's $3 million bond proposal held a slim 52-48 percent margin in early voting counts while Brock ISD's $3.495 million bond package saw 63 percent of the early voters in favor to #7 percent opposed.

In the question of ESD No. 1 annexing the Aledo fire district area, early voting among voters in the ESD No. 1 district saw 69 percent in favor of the first question and 62 percent in favor to the second, related to accepting the district's debt. In the Aledo fire district, however, 58 percent of early voters opposed proposition 1 and 62 percent were opposed to proposition 2. Both questions must pass in both affected districts in order for the annexation question to succeed.

More early voting results:

In the Weatherford College contested race, challenger Don Allen received 47 percent of the early votes to 40 percent for incumbent Elaine Carter and 13 percent for Dale Fleeger for the Place 2 trustees seat.
