Voters soundly defeat Weatherford ISD bond proposal

In the Reno City Council race, Eric Hunter easily outpolled Carol Houlihan in early voting, taking 87 percent of the early ballots.

Early voting in the Millsap ISD race, with two seats open, had incumbents Jerry Walker (50 percent) and Tommy Lucia (39 percent) out in front of challenger Tim Kukuk (11 percent).

In Willow Park's contested city council race, early voting results had Brian Thornburg with 62 percent of the votes to 38 percent for Chaen Gilliland.

In the Springtown mayor's race, incumbent Doug Hughes capture58 percent of the early votes to 42 percent for challenger Tom Clayton.

In the contested Springtown ISD races, Place 1 incumbent Mike Ray took 51 percent of the early votes to 49 percent for opponent Rusty Brawner. In the Place 3 race, challenger Jay Grubis received 51 percent of the early votes to 49 percent for incumbent Vicky Trichel. In the Place 7 race, Al Garrett received 64 percent of the early votes to 26 percent for Damon Liles and 10 percent for Gene Terry.

In the Annetta City Council place 3 race, incumbent Chuck Sheridan took 74 percent of the early votes to 26 percent for Joann Jessup while in the Place 5 race, Kent Stasey received 70 percent of the early votes to 30 percent for Mike Brasovan.

In the Annetta mayoral race, incumbent Bruck Pinckard took 76 percent of the early vote to 24 percent for Rick Machak.

  • Weatherford council proposes tax rate increase

    It’s that time of year again: budget season. Tuesday night at a Weatherford City Council special session, City of Weatherford Budget and Strategic Planning Manager Kyle Lester presented the fiscal year 2015 proposed budget, which covers nearly every city program and service except for utilities. In all, the budget consists of 19 funds, totaling $40.2 million. During the session, Lester focused mainly on the city’s general fund.

    Springtown police and Child Protective Services are investigating the circumstances surrounding a 3-month-old Springtown infant found last week to have two broken legs and a fractured rib.

    ALEDO — Aledo ISD is pleased to announce that a restructuring of the athletic department will occur for the 2014 school year. At his request, Coach Tim Buchanan will become the fulltime athletic director so he may focus on the entire athletic program of the District as it continues to grow.

  • New roads/improvements proposed by CCAC

    Although the initial phases of the project date back three years ago, the Citizen’s Capital Advisory Committee, appointed by the Weatherford City Council, has been working tirelessly through the first and second quarters of this year to come up with viable street projects for the city’s current Transportation Capital Improvement Plan. At a work session Tuesday evening, City of Weatherford Director of Capital Transportation Terry Hughes walked the council through CCAC’s proposed streets projects, which would be funded by a bond that could be voted on in a November election.

  • Jordan Paredes Teen driver facing charge in fatal wreck

    The 19-year-old driver involved in a single-vehicle wreck near Brock last week has been charged with driving while intoxicated and may face additional charges following the Tuesday death of a 16-year-old teen injured in the crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

  • Jordan Paredes Weatherford boy dies following wreck near Brock

    A 16-year-old Weatherford teen injured in a single-vehicle wreck near Brock last week died Tuesday afternoon at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner. 

    Jordan Paredes, reported by relatives to be in a coma following the wreck, was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m. in the trauma intensive care unit, the medical examiner reported.

    The Daughters of the American Revolution is all about supporting the military and Saturday morning, District II of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution gathered for a district workshop meeting and to contribute to the United Service Organizations Inc.’s Treats for Troops, which distributes snacks and refreshments to military members traveling through the DFW Airport.

    At a regular Hudson Oaks City Council meeting Thursday, Hudson Oaks Assistant City Administrator Chad Janicek presented the proposed fiscal year 2015 budget. As a part of the proposal, Janicek presented the council with proposed water utility rate increases, some of which, if approved, would take effect at the beginning of the 2015 fiscal year in October. The second half would take effect in the coming years, still to be determined. As a result, the proposed rate adjustment will occur in two phases.

    A paroled paralegal, accused of embezzling more than $48,000 from a Weatherford attorney since November and leaving behind forged documents affecting at least two clients’ legal cases, is in jail again, facing her fourth felony theft charge in 15 years.
