Girl scouts end cookie sales with a troop-to-troop donation

By SALLY SEXTON

Girl Scout cookie sales in the Fort Worth-Parker County area officially ended at the end of February, but troops from Service Unit 238 concluded this year with their annual Troop-to-Troop drop-off Friday at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.

“During cookie sales, we asked the public if they’d like to purchase of sponsor packs of cookies to be sent to military troops overseas or stationed within the U.S.,” Maria Gregorio, external public relations coordinator for the Girl Scouts Texas Oklahoma Plains, said. “It’s our way of saying thank you for your service.”

The Girl Scout troop for Parker County delivered a total of 1,600 boxes to troops at the base in Fort Worth.

“Usually what happens is the girls collect the boxes and the Girl Scout Council distributes them through their military contacts, so a lot of times the girls don’t get to see that face-to-face impact,” Larry Brown, service unit cookie chair, said. “But one of the cookie moms was able to get us contact with the base to distribute the cookies directly, and I felt it was an opportunity that we just couldn’t pass up.”

In total, the Parker County Girl Scouts were able to sell 65,119 boxes, around a 30 percent increase from last year’s number.

“We did very, very well this year and we want to get a big thank you out to the community for supporting us as well,” Brown said.
