Schedule set for Saturday's Weatherford Blooms event

Entertainment, courthouse tours part of Saturday's downtown festivities

By BRIAN SMITH

Final plans for Saturday’s Weatherford Blooms Festival are coming together.

The free event, which will go on rain or shine, runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in all quadrants of the downtown square. Plenty of new vendors this year will keep things fresh.

In celebration of Arbor Day, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department will be distributing free Texas Red Oak sapling trees to the first 200 residents that come by their booth.

Parks and Recreation Director Danielle Felts said proof of residency will be required to be shown to receive a tree.

The city has been part of the Texas Arbor Day Foundation, also known as Tree City USA, for 22 years, according to a press release.

Main Street Director Kim Thieme said Parker County is sponsoring free courthouse tours during the festival. The tours are scheduled for 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will start from the southeast quadrant of the square, Thieme said.

“This is an exciting partnership and we are so appreciative that the county has provided this component as an addition to Weatherford Blooms.” Thieme said.

The highly-anticipated antique tractor display will again be showcased and provide a local flare and educational opportunity for the farming enthusiast.  Event-goers are encouraged to participate in the People’s Choice Contest to vote on their favorite tractor.

“In addition to the attractions on the square, we are also proud to help celebrate Weatherford College Homecoming festivities, which will be held on the same day,” Thieme said.

Former students should contact the college for more information.

Times for the entertainment, found in the southwest quadrant, have been finalized. Gardeners, dance teams and musicians, along with a kids area where children can learn simple crafts and use a bounce house are planned.
