WISD board members told of CTE program achievements

In other action, Crockett Elementary Principal Jessica Robert presented her campus report.

“Crockett has fully embraced the ‘Cross the Line’ philosophy,” Robert said, “and we have put the ‘Fun’ in The Fundamental 5.”

Crockett’s slogan is “One Team, One Dream, Crossing the Line.”

Robert also praised former Principal Debbie Braudaway (now the principal at Hall Middle School) for having led a campus that has been “Exemplary” for five consecutive years.

This year, Robert said a heavy emphasis was placed on second grade reading and writing.

“Our goal is to have all second grade students reading on grade level by the end of the school year,” she added.

Also, Robert talked about the district’s Preschool Programs for Children with Disabilities. Crockett is one of two campuses within the district offering this program.

Richard Crosby, WISD executive director for Human Resources, provided enrollment projections and staffing information for 2013-14.

He said the district looks to hire an additional Health Science Technology teacher at the secondary level because of the increased enrollment and interest in that field.

At the elementary level, he said the district will be adding a new bilingual fifth grade class at Ikard Elementary.

Other action

The board Thursday approved PlainsCapital Bank to serve as the district’s depository for the next two fiscal years.The board accepted the retirements of Pam Freeman, Pass Coordinator (WHS); Lisa Lee, fifth grade teacher (Seguin Elementary); Lori Boswell, WISD director of accounting; John Paul Kechnie, WISD maintenance supervisor; Billy Martin, assistant principal at the Ninth Grade Center; and Barbara Pitt, Wright Elementary assistant principal.

The board accepted the resignations of Aaron Adair, health teacher/coach (Hall Middle School); Abbigail Blackbusn, kindergarten teacher (Curtis Elementary); Jaclyn Christian, kindergarten teacher (Curtis Elementary); Paul Gray, Social Studies teacher (WHS); Ashley Healey, Journalism teacher (WHS); Kristen Helton, Music teacher (Curtis Elementary); Erin Riley, fourth grade teacher (Wright Elementary); and Katherine Stovall, second grade teacher (Seguin Elementary).

The board also approved the hiring of new district accounting director Emmett Whitefield.

    A woman killed early Friday morning while walking on Interstate 30 near the Parker - Tarrant county line has been identified as 29-year-old Ashley Wright of Weatherford, according to information released Saturday by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
