Bless the pets

WP business hosting pet food drive and blessing on birthday of St. Francis of Assisi

WILLOW PARK — A business here is looking to do some good for animals in two ways with a special event Saturday.

LeChateau K-9 Day Spa, 5011 I-20 Service Road in Willow Park, is hosting its annual Pet Food Drive and Blessing of the Animals Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. benefiting Aledo Center of Hope. Last year’s event was a success, according to owner Jackie French, with more than 100 people and pets combined attending.

The event started, according to French, as a way to reach out to the public for help. French said she had been helping Center of Hope with pet food donation collections for years. The need began to be too much, so she decided to go to the public for additional help.

“About 35 families a week are having their animals helped through Center of Hope,” French said. “We’re trying to help the families keep the animals they love instead of having to send them to the shelter or foster care.”

This year, the event is being held on the birthday of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Chaplain Raelyn Scott will be on hand once again to bless all animals who come out. A statue of the saint will be on display for anyone wishing to take a photo with their pet, according to a press release.

Aledo Center of Hope officials will be on hand to take pet food donations and answer questions about the organization. The first 100 that attend and make a $10 donation of cash or pet food will receive a Saint Francis medallion for their furry friend.

Free treats for people and pets, including popcorn, hot dogs and cotton candy for the humans, and entertainment by Garrett Bradford will make the day special for everyone.

For information on the event, call French at 817-441-8844.
