Twice the tribute

Rhonda Medina brings Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton to the Texas Opry Theater stage

Fans of Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton will have the chance to feel as though they are at their concert when award winning star of stage and screen Rhonda Medina performs at 3 p.m. this Saturday at Texas Opry Theater, 319 York Ave. in downtown Weatherford.

Advance reservations feature a $5 discount per advance ticket. Tickets at the door are $20 and $25 each.

Backing Medina will be The Amazing Made In Texas Show Time Band.

Medina is a vocalist, actress and celebrity impersonator. Her performance career started in Los Angeles at the young age of 2 years old when her mother noticed she was memorizing all the Shirley Temple tap dance numbers on TV. By age 4 Medina was “showing off” for thousands all over Los Angeles as a dancer and acrobat.

In 1996, while seeking additional income between theater performances, she answered an audition call for a “Mae West” look-a-like at Universal Studios Theme Park in Hollywood.

“I had no idea this would add a whole new element to my acting career. I had now become a variety entertainer” Medina said. “One thing led to another and soon I had developed five complete musical comedy characters that I have been portraying for 18 years.”

Some of her best known impressions are as Marilyn Monroe, Mae West, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, Judy Garland and Lucille Ball. Medina has twice performed in the Rose Parade as a dancer and celebrity impersonator. Her favorite memory was in 1999 with Bob Hope on a float dedicated to “Memories In Television.”

As a theater actress, she has twice been awarded the Los Angeles Drama Logue Critic’s Award for her dramatic work on stage in the productions of “Come Back to the Five & Dime, Jimmy Dean” and “Witness for the Prosecution.”

Medina currently lives in Dallas where she is happily married with two children and two dogs. She currently performs as a celebrity tribute artist on a weekly basis for local and national venues, coaches musical theater and facilitates special entertainment programs at senior living and memory care centers.
