WILLOW PARK – Willow Park Fire Department and other emergency personnel responded to a wreck on Interstate 20 between the Ranch House Road and the Mikus Road exits mid-afternoon Tuesday where a 1-ton pickup pulling a flatbed trailer spilled three 55-gallon drums of paint onto the highway and into a median drainage ditch, according to officials.
Willow Park Fire Chief Brent Sauble estimated more than 100 gallons of water-based paint were on the ground.
They worked to contain the spill by setting up a dike to keep the paint from going into the median drains during the rainy afternoon, according to Sauble, and contacted the Texas Department of Transportation, the Parker County Emergency Response Team, the Parker County Emergency Management Coordinator and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regarding the spill.
TxDOT contacted a hazardous materials company to do a removal.
Traffic was backed up for miles after officials shut down the westbound lanes for several hours. The lanes were reopened by 6:30 p.m.
There were no injuries reported, according to officials.
