Adell church thanks fire departments for response

After 29 years, WPD detective ready to investigate retirement

By BRIAN SMITH

City officials here honored three groups and individuals during Tuesday night’s regular meeting.

Weatherford and county fire departments were thanked by Rev. Mike Wiley of Adell Community Fellowship for their quick responses and professionalism during a fire at the church last month. Wiley said the fire went to six alarms and several departments were involved before it was finally put under control.

“I told the fire marshal on the scene that everyone worked like it was a well-oiled machine,” Wiley said. “We appreciate all the work done on our building as do all the residents of incorporated and unincorporated areas.”

Wiley, who said he spent 10 years with the county as a purchasing agent, said that the church and its congregation are “keeping on” despite the adversity.

“Even through difficult times, our God sees us through,” Wiley said.

City Manager Jerry Blaisdell gave the Award for Excellence and the Lifetime Achievement Award to retiring WPD Detective Lannie Fulton for his 29 years of work in the department. Blaidesll said Fulton was hired at the age of 20 and has been with the city ever since.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of outstanding people here in the city and he is definitely one of them,” Blaisdell said. “I have a deep abiding respect for who he is.”

Police Chief Mike Manning said Fulton is a quiet man who doesn’t say much but “we listen to him when he does.”

Mayor Dennis Hooks read a proclamation declaring Tuesday as Grandmaster Bob Nuttall Day in the city. Nuttall has been a self-defense expert for more than 40 years, calling him a “great gentleman and an asset to our community.”

In other news, the council reappointed Municipal Court Judge Ben Sasin for another two year term. At the Dec. 11 meeting, the city approved a $2,000 pay increase and a commendable evaluation. Reappointment was intended for the judge but not stated at the time.

Sasin’s term now extends through Dec. 31, 2014.
