Suspects ID’d in homicide case

WEATHERFORD —

By CHRISTIN COYNE

Investigators have identified two possible suspects in the death of a 53-year-old Parker County man, believed to have been killed possibly in the Fort Worth area before his remains were set on fire in East Texas and disposed of in a Louisiana lake.

Detectives have also searched a southwest Fort Worth apartment in connection with the investigation into the death of Marion Lee Brown, an executive with a refrigeration equipment business who lived on the Brazos River in southern Parker County.

“The search warrants executed on May 29, 2014, on Enclave Circle were in reference to an ongoing robbery investigation that detectives believe may be related to the investigation into the death of Marion Brown,” a statement from Fort Worth police reads. “An additional search warrant was prepared and executed at the same time as the robbery search warrant. The second search warrant was prepared to search for evidence related to a homicide. Several items were seized, but at this time we are unable to say if this is in fact the location of any offense related to a homicide.”

The investigation began around 7 a.m. May 23 when Smith County deputies responding to a 911 call about a smoldering object on the rural roadway reportedly found human remains, including pieces of skull, wrapped in carpeting, which had been set on fire.

It “was obviously a scene at which the perpetrators discarded valuable evidence obviously subsequent to cleaning up the original homicide scene,” according to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

About 12 hours later, a Toyota FJ Cruiser registered to Brown was found on fire on a road near Tyler State Park in Smith County.

Late on the morning of May 24, Shreveport police responded to a call and found the body of a man with head trauma in Lake Cross, near Interstate 220.

The man’s body was later identified as Brown, who was last seen at work in Fort Worth on May 22.

After the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and Shreveport Police Department provided information to the Fort Worth Police Department leading to the search warrant executed Thursday, Fort Worth police have since taken the lead in the investigation, according to authorities.

Fort Worth police declined to release additional details Friday.
