Earl H. Burmeister

Earl H. Burmeister, 88, died Friday, March 10, 2007, in Weatherford.

Earl lived with his youngest daughter, Shelly and her husband, Rick Mowery, at their cutting horse ranch for the past four years. He retired as one of the top sheet metal contractors in the U.S.

Earl was a remarkable man who led a full life. His accomplishments included a World War II vet who fought 27 months in combat. He was instrumental in designing a method called Duct Tape used for heating and air conditioning systems throughout the U.S. As well, as the contractor for heat/air for the once recognized eighth wonder of the world, the “Astrodome,” also, the Kennedy Space Center, the Smithsonian, DFW Braniff Terminal, Fort Worth Building now known as “The Tower” are just a few to mention of his accomplishments.

He was an avid golfer, fisherman, chef, gardener, artist and a total all-around enthusiast. Earl aged gracefully. At age 88, Burmeister enjoyed life, agility and a strong independence of a much younger man.

Survivors include daughters, Susan Davis of Des Moines, Iowa, Sally Tenhagen of Port Mansfield, Shelly Mowery of Weatherford; nine grandchildren, Scott Tenhagen, Mark Tenhagen, Brad Tenhagen, Matt Davis, Jason Davis, Sawyer Mowery, Hayden Mowery, Gavin Mowery and Sheldon Mowery; three great-grandchildren, Payton Tenhagen, Cara and Austin Tenhagen; and sister, Lavonne Deets, 91, of Des Moines, Iowa.

Eighty-eight years young, Burmeister will be laid to rest in Des Moines, Iowa, with his wife, Helen of 49 years, who preceded him in death.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
