Ruth Stroud Hurt

Ruth passed away Dec. 26, 2013, in Albuquerque, N.M., where she resided most of her life after leaving Texas.

Ruth will be buried Jan. 3, 2014, beside her husband in the National Military Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.

Ruth graduated from Weatherford High School in 1941. After graduation, she attended Weatherford College, taking courses to pursue a banking degree. George Fant, president of First National Bank Weatherford at that time, hired her part time while attending Weatherford College and full time soon thereafter. She retired from United National Bank Albuquerque as vice president after 30 years of service.

She met the love of her life, Lloyd Hurt, in 1941, when he was stationed at Fort Wolters during World War II. On Dec. 4, 1942, they were married at First Baptist Church of Weatherford, and soon afterward moved to New Mexico, where they began their life together.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd L. Hurt; son, Rickey Hurt; mother and father, Lewis and Susie Stroud; and brothers, James and Herman Stroud. She is survived by sisters, Naomi Turk, of Kansas City, Kan., Ola Culwell, of Springtown, and Flo Williams, of Weatherford; brothers, Norris Stroud, of Arlington, and Edward Stroud, of Cleburne; and lots of nieces and nephews in the area.
