Mary Joan McLaughlin Stokes

WEATHERFORD – Joanie Stokes, 69, died Saturday, March 30, 2013, in Fort Worth.

Service is 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at White's Chapel of Memories, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.

Joanie was born Nov. 6, 1943, to the late Major Boston and Zelma Louise Melton McLaughlin in Clovis, N.M. On Jan. 12, 1972, Joanie married the love of her life, George Stokes, in Mineral Wells. She became a dedicated homemaker caring for everyone around her. She was an accomplished painter, loved to garden and do beautiful needlework. Joanie was involved in the community through memberships in the 20th Century Club, Weatherford Adopt a Country Road project, Weatherford Historical Preservation Committee, Weatherford Garden Club and was a supporter of the Pythian Home.

Survivors include husband, George Stokes, of Weatherford; daughter, Paige Stokes, of Fort Worth; son, Victor Craig Stokes and wife, Jennifer Lynn; brother, Tom McLaughlin and wife, Ann, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Morgan Mikelle DeLaCruz, Kimber Rae Phillips and husband, William, Tyler Craig Stokes and wife, Kim, Michael Brian Stokes, and Brenden TJ Hall-Grassmann; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Levi Stokes; and nephew, Christopher Dobias.

Joanie was preceded in death by her parents, Major Boston and Zelma Louise McLaughlin; sister, Clara Dobias; and brother, Taylor Jeff McLaughlin.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in her memory to the 20th Century Club, 321 S. Main St., Weatherford, TX 76086.
