Elsie Mae Phillips

MONTROSE, Colo. – Elsie Mae Phillips, 59, died Sept. 20, 2013, in Montrose, Colo.

She was wrapped up in the Lord’s arms and carried home. She is now free from a lifetime of pain and suffering. We may have lost a wonderful, loving and compassionate daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and best friend many of us will ever know, but Elsie is now in the arms of all the angels that have come before her.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Cool Community Center in Cool, located on FM Road 113 south of U.S. Highway 180 West.

Born Dec. 31, 1953, in Weatherford to James and Betty Phillips, she was a longtime resident of Weatherford and was living in Montrose for the past two years. She was a loving and caring mother of four children and numerous adopted children. She lived life to the best she could and always had a smile on her face no matter the pain. One of her goals in life was to make people smile for just a moment to help them forget what they might be going through.

She leaves behind her mother, Betty McLin, and step-dad, Billy McLin, of Weatherford; sisters, Rune Smak and husband, Gene, of Jackson, Mich.; Mary McLin, of Mineral Wells, and Wanda McLin, of Weatherford; brothers, James Phillips, of Montrose, Colo., Billy Phillips and wife, LouAnne, of Mineral Wells, Kenneth McLin and wife, Martha, of Porter, Deanie McLin and wife, Sharon, of Fort Worth, and Dan Phillips, of Middleville, Mich.; her children, Lisa Long, of Weatherford, Philip Long, of Weatherford, Daniel Long and wife, Kristi, of Tulia, and Ellen Mae Bowser, of Mineral Wells; grandkids, Darren Lackey, Eric Lackey, Ryan Lackey, Tommy Cravens, Steven Cravens, Shaleigh Long and Cody Long; great-grandkids, Elijah and Emma; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many, many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Albert Phillips; step-mom, Judeth “Judy” Phillips; Patrick Neil Cravens; and lifelong sweetheart, Robert “Chain-Wad” Chaney.

She will be greatly missed but never forgotten. A very special thank you to all of her doctors, nurses and caretakers.
