Eva Dell Grote

Eva Dell Grote, 61, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at her home in Weatherford, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, in the Couts United Memorial Methodist Church with interment in Bethel Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford is in charge of arrangements.

Eva Dell was born in Madisonville to her parents James and Madre Hopkins. Being the ninth of 13 kids meant there was always something going on at their childhood home in Midway.

After graduating from Madisonville High School, Eva moved to College Station, where she met Gary Grote. The two dated for a year and a half and married Aug. 7, 1972. Mrs. Grote worked as a secretary at Texas A&M University to help put Gary through vet school. After graduation, the two moved to St. Louis, Mo. Soon, they became homesick and decided to make Weatherford their home. She helped set up Grote Veterinary Clinic at 819 Santa Fe Drive. With things settled, she fulfilled her dream of going to college. She studied Criminal Justice and graduated from both Weatherford College and Tarleton State University. She worked as an adult probation officer for Parker County for eight years. She then returned to manage the office for the Grote Veterinary Clinic.

Eva is survived by her husband, Gary Grote, of Weatherford; daughter, Nikki and fiancé, James Rhodes; grandson, Tucker Morton, of Weatherford; son, Gabe and his wife, Elizabeth, and grandson, Walker, of Fort Worth.

She is also survived by the following family members: David Williams and wife, Sundee, and their children, Shelly, Amy and Cody, of Gilbert, Ariz.; sister, Irene Beathard, of Kingsland; brother, James Earl Hopkins, of Livingston; brother, Willie Gene Hopkins, of Midway; brother, Charlie Hopkins, of Cossie; sister, Mary Ann Mash, of Deer Park; brother, Harrold Dean Hopkins, of Buffalo; brother, John Wayne Hopkins, of Bedias; sister, Barbara Ann Rudy, of Waco; sister, Sarah Donahoe, of Midway; and sister, Marie Driver, of Midway.
