Elaine was a member of and was active in First Baptist Church of Weatherford since 1964. She attended college at Hardin Simmons for two years, then transferred to Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. She taught at Weatherford High School for 14 years before retiring in 1978. She also volunteered in the Weatherford Independent School District until 1996. For the last 21 years one of her passions was dancing, especially clogging.
She was the reporter for the local Pioneers Square Dance Club for 20-plus years. Not only did she teach clogging with the Klassy Kloggers, she formed her own clogging group, The Texas Wildflower Cloggers, which is still going strong today. A little known fact is that not long after living in Weatherford, she earned her private aircraft pilot’s license.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Ernest Fred Cox; son, Jay Cox, of Weatherford; sister, Jeanine Lewis, of Columbus, Kan.; and brother, Brown Rowell, of Ingleside, Texas.
She is preceded by her parents, W.D. “Jimmy” and Veda Ethel Rowell.
