Richland Lee “Dick” “Papaw” Knowlton

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Richard Lee “Dick” “Papaw” Knowlton passed from his earthly journey Friday, May 30, 2014, while at home under the loving care of family and his wonderful nurses from Community Hospice. Known as a wonderful, loving, caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, he had just celebrated his 90th birthday.

Celebration of life and visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Fellowship of the Parks, 9900 N. Beach St., Keller.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County, SPCA of Tarrant County, Community Hospice of Euless, American Cancer Society or a charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.

Dick was born in Torrington, Wyoming, to William and Winnie Knowlton, and was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Torrington High School and then went on to the University of Wyoming, where he earned his degree in civil engineering. After his service in the Army during World War II, he obtained his master’s from Texas A&M.

In 1948, he was married to Gloria Jane Sadler, of Weatherford. They settled in Fort Worth, where they raised two daughters and were loyal members of their church and community. He devoted his life to helping others. Some of his achievements included Knowlton English Flowers Civil Engineers, Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and serving in various positions at Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, including singing in the choir with Gloria. His biggest joy was helping family and friends and he was always up for a project. He was a loving husband for 55 years before he was preceded in death by Gloria.

In 2006, he married a childhood friend, Mary Frances Courtney Rust, of Wyoming. They spent their time between Wyoming in the summers and Texas in the winters, giving him ample opportunity to see family members spread out between these states.
