John Andrew “Andy” Hummel, 59, of Weatherford, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010.
Andy was born Jan. 26, 1951, in Valley Forge, Pa., to John Vernon and Barbara Walker Hummel.
Andy was raised in Memphis, Tenn., and graduated high school in 1969, from Memphis University School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Rhodes College in Memphis and a master’s degree from the University of Dallas.
Andy moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1978. He and Patti Martin married Nov. 3, 1979, and eventually moved their family to Weatherford, Texas, in 1990. Andy was a 30-year employee of Lockheed Martin.
Andy was a brilliant musician and a founding member of the rock group Big Star. He loved renovating old houses, gardening, running and cycling. He was an avid reader; happiest at home with family, friends and a fine meal.
Survivors include his wife, Patti; daughter, Cady Hummel-Thomas and husband, Tanner; sons, Drew Hummel and Walker Hummel; granddaughter, Eleanor Thomas; sister, Sally Hummel-Chumney; brother, Robert Hummel and many other wonderful family members and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Weatherford. A private burial will take place in Greenwood Community Cemetery.
