Waldo Sherril Steen, age 77, of Brock, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, at Harris Hospital in Fort Worth.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Iberia First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Williams Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia, MO.
Sherril was born in Iberia on Feb. 19, 1936, son of the late Waldo and Eula (Popplewell) Steen. On Feb, 12, 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Faye Pemberton.
Sherril served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps and 18 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1982 as Lieutenant Colonel, Air Force Communications Service, USAFE, and served a total of 11 years in the reserves. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1959 from the University of Missouri, Columbia, followed by BS and MS degrees with honors in electrical engineering in 1973 and 1974. Sherril operated several independent businesses and worked for 10 years as a program manager and systems engineer for Lockheed Martin. He served in many volunteer positions, including Civil Air Patrol, Tailwind Estates, Williams Cemetery, Miller County Historical Society, Popplewell Family Association and Parker County Emergency Services Division #9. Sherril was a member of Brock Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, Shriners, Tau Beta Pi and other fraternities. He was a private pilot and restored two airplanes.
He is survived by loving wife, Alice; two sons, Douglas Steen and wife, Lynette, and Darrel Steen and wife, Jenny, both of Fort Worth; one daughter, Dana Maloney and husband, Jim, of Charlotte, NC; 10 grandchildren, Tiffany Norton and husband, John, of Littleton, CO, Aron Steen, of Taiwan, Alan Steen, of Fort Worth, Ryan Riley and wife, Emily, of Princeton, NJ, Eric Steen and wife, Maricela. of Fort Worth, Shane Maloney. of Sacramento, CA, Dylan and Zach Maloney, of Charlotte, NC, Marissa Steen, of Fort Worth, and Allison Steen, of Staunton, VA; six great grandchildren, Dylan and Graham Norton, Maribel, Robert, Elijah and Madison Steen; one brother, James and wife, Bella Steen, of Eldon, MO; and four sisters, Carol and husband, Louis Elseman, of Eldon, MO, Alice and husband, Robert Tyler, of College Park, MD, Marilyn and husband, Rex Whitaker, of Iberia, MO and Eula Maye and husband, Wyeth Bond, of California, MO.
