Ernest Allen Rudy, Jr., 93, of Weatherford, passed away on April 2, 2014, in Weatherford.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date at the Soldier Cemetery in Soldier, Kan.
Ernest was born July 17, 1920, to Ernest Allen and Elfa Fisher Rudy, in Atchison, Kan. He spent much of his youth in the Soldier and Holton, Kan. communities, where he graduated from Soldier High School. At age 16, he joined the National Guard and later served in the U.S. Army. Ernest served from 1940 to 1945, during World War II, in the European theater.
Throughout his life, Ernest worked in the aerospace industry; first in Wichita, Kan., at Beech Aircraft in the 1950s, and then in later years, he operated his own business in the Fort Worth area, distributing metal tubing to the aerospace industry.
Ernest married Betty Welch on May 10, 1948, in Raton, N.M. Survivors include his wife, Betty and two sons, Ernest Rudy III (Debbie), of Weatherford, and Garth Rudy (Sarah), of England; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Marjorie Rudy Hug, of Holton, Kan.; one brother, Keith Rudy (Colleen), of Dallas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry Rudy; and brother, Lyle Rudy.
Ernest leaves behind a legacy of strength and courage. Even in his weakest moments he showed us all what it is to be strong. He was just that way.
