THE WOODLANDS – Frances Rebecca (Becky) Hicks, 92, died May 1, 2013, in The Woodlands, Texas.
A memorial service in celebration of Becky’s life is 1 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at The Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., Lakeway, TX 78734.
She was born Dec. 20, 1920 in Stamford, Texas, as one of six daughters to parents Annette and Slover Culwell of Weatherford. Becky’s passion for life and love of family and friends was clear whether she was golfing, playing bridge, cooking or sitting on the porch with her family.
A graduate of Weatherford College, Becky shared her love of knowledge with her students in a small school in Wizard Wells, Texas, where she served as both teacher and principal. She and Talmage married Dec. 24, 1941, and exemplified true commitment and love. She particularly enjoyed her time as a faculty wife at Texas A&M for seven years, living in California, Houston and Lakeway, their world travel and staying home to raise their three sons.
She is survived by her sister, Judy Moughon and husband, John; her sons, David and wife, Susan, Jim and wife, Debra, and Paul and wife, Keri; her grandchildren, David and wife, Lauren, Travis and fiancée, Melissa, Lindsay, Jaimie Masterson and husband, Josh, Kate Pharr and husband, Matt, Joseph and Brian; and great-grandchildren, Cullen Masterson, Anderson and Alice.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Talmage; and her sisters, Elizabeth Phillips, Joy Nell Adams, Gloria Rutledge and Georgianne Simmons.
The family wishes to express profound appreciation for the most loving care provided by Julie Clements and the team at Autumn Grove Cottage in The Woodlands for the last four and half years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lakeway Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
