Rev. George W. Ivy

BIG SPRING – Rev. George W. Ivy died Dec. 4, 2013, at Scenic Mountain Hospital in Big Spring, Texas, at the age of 94.

Service is 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Church of God Campground, Fort Worth Highway, Weatherford. Rev. Floyd H. Lawhon will be officiating, assisted by Pastor Eddie Prince. Interment will be at East Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at White’s Funeral Home, 130 Houston Ave., Weatherford.

Pallbearers are great grandsons, Bryce and Logan Pruitt, Luke and Andrew Erwin, Braydon and Rylan Ivy, Kevin Lawhon, Wade and Derek Hammond, Landon Ivy and Nikolas Vigne. Honorary pallbearers are step-great-grandsons, Gary, Kevin and Curtis Osburn, and Tony Scharbrough.

He was born Oct. 29, 1919, to Lorenzo Price Ivy and Norah Robinson Ivy in Van Zandt County, Texas. He married Ludene Mitchell on Sept. 9, 1938. She preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 2005. He was a licensed minister with the Church of God, Cleveland, Tenn., beginning his ministry in 1948. They pastored churches in Haskell, Midland, Abilene, Lubbock, Amarillo and Fort Worth. He also served in the Navy in 1944-45.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita, of Big Spring; daughters, Betty Pruitt and husband, Ken, of Midland, Gay Lawhon and husband, Floyd, of Deland, Fla.; son, Larry Ivy and wife, Billie, of Eula; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; one stepson, Gary Osburn and wife, Janet, of Big Spring; one step-daughter, Janice Shields and husband, Royce, of Fort Worth; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; brother, Loyd Ivy and wife, Sarah, of Mesquite; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and four sisters.

Thanks to all the special people who took care of, prayed for and visited during this time of illness.

He was a great example of a life lived for Christ with a great love for God and family. He was dedicated, strong and gentle, and always had a funny joke or story to tell. To all of those who knew and loved him, he will be greatly missed.
