Charles Benjamin Akers

WEATHERFORD —

The Honorable Judge Ben Akers passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, in Weatherford.

Born Charles Benjamin Akers on Jan. 31, 1957, to Doug and Shirley Akers in Leon Iowa, Ben was the second of four children. Law school and avoiding the snow of Iowa brought Ben to the University of Houston. Ben loved cars and car shows, especially the Porsche. He was a master gardener and outdoorsman. He loved the music of the Eagles and was a wonderful human being. Ben was a prosecutor in Nueces and Parker County, as well as a private practice lawyer for several years. He spent 10 years as County Court at Law No. 2 Judge; he always felt honored to serve the public and community. He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Willow Park, the Optimist Club in Springtown and the Texas Bar Association. Ben was also a licensed CPA and was very well known for his dry wit and intelligence. He was a resident of Weatherford for over 30 years.

Ben leaves behind his children, Maggie Akers and Mark Akers; mother, Shirley Akers; sisters, Debbra Dunn and husband, Randy, Sandy Higdon and husband, Dave; brother, Dan Akers and wife, Veronica; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Doug Akers.
