Elmer Ray Casey, 71, of Weatherford, died Monday March 1, 2013, at the Plaza Regional Hospital in Fort Worth.
Service is 2 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Higginbotham Funeral Chapel in Cross Plains, with Daniel Burlison officiating. Burial will be in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Callahan County. Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Cross Plains to Urah and Jessie (Woody) Casey. He married Mary (Hail) Catlett on Jan. 2, 1981, in Pecos. Elmer served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2003. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, camping and carpentry.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Mary Casey, of Weatherford; three sons, Jack Casey and wife, Terrill, of De Leon, Joey Casey and wife, Diane, of Gorman, and Michael Casey and Sabrina, of Weatherford; two step-daughters, Debbie Bland and husband, Richard, of Sulphur, Okla., and Sherrie Crump and husband, James, of Bethany, Okla.; brothers, James “Shorty” Casey, of Amarillo, Jesse “Buddy” Casey, of Idaho, and Thomas Casey, of Cisco; sister, Sally Whiteley of Cross Plains; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Julie Buchanan.
