Oras Lowell Carlile, 88, better known to his family and friends as “Shorty,” died Friday morning, Nov. 29, 2013, peacefully at his home.
Service was 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 2, at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel. Interment was in East Greenwood Cemetery. Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements. Shorty went home to be with his Lord and Savior.
He was born in Nix, Lampasas County, Texas, on March 19, 1925, the son of the late Luke Nelson Carlile and Beulah Carlile. Shorty has been a resident of Weatherford, along with his family, for the past 63 years. Shorty is a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was employed with General Dynamics as a supervisor for 42 dedicated years until his retirement in January 1989.
On Sept. 13, 1947, in Cisco, Shorty married the love of his life, his “sweetheart,” Corean Humphrey. They shared 60 wonderful and loving years together until her passing in 2008.
What Shorty loved most in life was being surrounded by his family. Called “Dad” by his grandchildren, he was truly their hero, their role model and their best friend. His guidance, strength, strong faith and love will continue on through them every day of their lives.
Survivors include his daughter, Darla Sosebee and husband, Billy; granddaughters, Kendra Reeves and husband, Kevin, and Kortney Stepich; great-grandchildren, Jaydon Sosebee, Wyatt Reeves and Saydee Stepich, all of Weatherford; and many special nieces, nephews and a host of loving family and dear friends.
Shorty was preceded in death by his loving wife, Corean; his parents; four brothers; two sisters; a precious granddaughter, Karrie Sosebee; and a much-loved grandson-in-law, Marc Stepich.
