Harmon Lee Connaway died Monday, Sept. 16, 2013.
A memorial service is 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel.
He was a lifelong resident of Weatherford and he never met a stranger. He will be remembered for his generosity and his eagerness to lend a helping hand to a friend or a stranger. Harmon was an avid pilot. His passion for flying began at the early age of 14. He obtained his pilot’s license at 16 years old. A proud owner of a Piper Cub, he rebuilt and reworked the plane himself.
In 1956, he began flying commercially with Trans Texas Airways. He stayed on with Texas International when the two airlines merged with IT, and then with Continental Airlines when it merged. He retired from Continental as the senior captain after 35 years of service to the airline industry.
Harmon was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ann Connaway.
He is survived by her daughter, Marcia White and Gunda Kirk; his son, Randy Connaway and Annali; grandchildren, Dawn Jarvis and Henry, Steven Connaway and Stacey, Michelle Connaway; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
