I take serious exception to Mr. Jay Cloward’s letter, “Big city, no care” (7/8/14) in which he states that it almost looks like the city wants to become a for-profit company and Weatherford has “become a city too big to care.” We may not always agree with everything our elected officials and staff do but I know one thing – they do care. Countless hours are spent trying to determine how best to serve the citizens with the funds available. The City of Weatherford is privileged to have a very competent and professional staff and dedicated elected officials who spend countless hours on city business. We all get disgruntled from time to time but these comments were unfair and, in my opinion, unwarranted.
Government sanctioned immigrant invasion
In response to Ms. Conaway’s letter that seemingly attacks Christians for not opening their doors and pews to help the “poor” helpless children flooding through our borders, all I ask is for her to get the facts straight. I know that can be hard to do, but she claimed to know how to google.
As many of the latest news reports go including some stories from the liberal-leaning media, the consensus is that this is a government sanctioned invasion. Just one more attempt by this administration to “fundamentally transform” America. In a recent speech, it was stated that we cannot turn away the world’s best and brightest trying to come here … what? With all due respect to this latest wave of humanity, of those violating the border, the majority are from Central America and are poor and poorly educated if at all. Not only are congressional reps being turned away from inspecting the interment facilities of all church groups and pastors, but, heck, how will you get close to these immigrant children?
