Call for cessation of secession

Dear Editor,

The Americans that are petitioning the government to succeed from the Union are like the spoiled child that when corrected, throws a fit, falls down on the floor kicking and screaming, and when their fit doesn’t work, they threaten to run away from home.

However, these people aren’t children and are responsible for their actions and threats.

The reaction of the sane loyal majority makes me proud to be an American. In many other countries these secessionists would be arrested for treason or murdered by the mob. It is ironic that the people who would destroy the Union are the ones who enjoy the greater share of the protection and liberty it guarantees.

I hope these people are called out for their arrogant stupidity by the vast loyal majority of Americans.

Respectfully,

Dennis Tilly, Weatherford

A war on Christmas

Dear Editor,

Get ready folks, you are not going to believe these current headlines, or sadly enough maybe you will!

• The 2012 White House “Holiday” card spotlights the Obama’s family Portuguese water dog — instead of Christmas. A lot of thought must have into this non Christmas card.

• The University of California in Berkeley is considering a student government resolution calling for Salvation Army bell ringers to be banned from campus over allegations the charity is “anti-gay.”

• The owner of a New Jersey business is facing thousands of dollars in possible fines after he refused to remove a 40-foot tall inflatable Santa Claus from his rooftop.

Residents of a senior adult apartment complex in California staged a protest after the management of their building announced a ban on Christmas trees and menorahs in communal areas.

• A British primary school has created a yuletide uproar after telling parents they would no longer be able to donate homemade treats to the annual Christmas fair unless they had government certification.

The best, or shall I say the worst, is the fact that not even Charlie Brown is safe from persecution.

• A Little Rock church has cancelled a student matinee performance of “Merry Christmas Charlie Brown” after critics complained the show was too religious and therefore violated the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

This headline will really rock your Christmas socks off!

• Residents Say School Traded Jesus for Frosty the Snowman

The flashpoint in this Christmas controversy is the tiny town of Cottondale, located in the Florida panhandle.

For the past 30 years, a Nativity scene has been erected on the front lawn of Cottondale Elementary School. But now the annual holiday tradition has been abandoned – over fears that the Baby Jesus might somehow violate the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

Principal Brenda Jones told television station WJHG the decision to keep Baby Jesus in the closet came after an official with the Dept. of Education dropped by to discuss the separation of church and state.

Officials at the school said, “You’ll see Frosty the Snowman but you will not see anything related to Christ,” he said. “School employees are not allowed to say Merry Christmas. They’re not allowed to display anything that relates to Christ or religion in Christmas.”

There are many more such headlines on the war on Christmas, these are just a few and there will be many more to come. Lets not let a few, you fill in the blank, _______ people ruin Christmas for the rest of us. This so called war on Christmas has already been won. I read the end of the Book!

John3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.

Look around you and find a need and meet it, the joy of doing so will give you great joy in this Christmas season.

Joy and Peace to all in this Christmas season!

David Nowak, Weatherford
