Paws for the cause

Dear Editor,

Thank you for supporting Parker Paws in 2012. Your newspaper published many letters submitted to the editor and feature stories throughout the year, all increasing reader’s awareness of Parker Paws’s presence in the community.

2012 has been a year of change and growth for Parker Paws. It was also a milestone year as we celebrated our fifth anniversary in November. The dedication of our volunteers and supporters made this a successful year for hundreds of homeless pets. So far this year, Parker Paws has rescued over 400 pets, with 350 already in their new homes. We’ve also helped many people keep their pets until adoption and have provided low-cost spay/neuters to prevent unwanted litters, all in an effort to help keep pets out of the shelter.

We are proud of our successes in 2012, and look forward to increasing our efforts in 2013. To do so, we ask for continued support from our community. Each day we receive calls for assistance and we also want to help as many shelter pets as possible. We are only limited by our resources: money for vet care and foster homes until adoption. It’s that simple.

We’d love for members of our community to consider fostering, providing a short-term home for a pet in need. It is a way to give back to Weatherford, a great way to introduce children to volunteering and very rewarding when you match a pet with his forever home.

Our average cost per foster pet prior to adoption is $150. Our adoption fees are low to promote adoptions (only $40 for cats and $75 for dogs). Donations from generous supporters in Weatherford, helps make the difference  And when you see the results, we think you’ll agree that these pets are worth it.

We encourage readers to make the most  generous (tax-deductible) holiday gift they can to help us rescue and rehome more pets in need. For more information about Parker Paws or to make a donation, please visit our website – www.ParkerPaws.org. Happy holidays!
