Support McCarthy to head EPA

Dear Editor,

As mercury pollution threatens our waterways and carbon pollution-fueled climate change worsens extreme weather, we need someone in Washington who knows how to get things done.

That’s why I’m asking our U.S. senators to support Gina McCarthy’s nomination to head the Environmental Protection Agency.

Sincerely,

Ms. Hillery Earl, Joshua

Internet has scoop on GOP scandals

Dear Editor,

With all the news about the recent leaks on the AP, Benghazi and the IRS scandal. There is more that needs to be revealed.

Well, I know many people whether Democrat, independent or Republican do not have favorable stories to tell about the IRS. But here is some information you need to pull up on your Internet. The sites for your search are “Stealing America: Vote by Vote” and “911 Truth News: 911 News and Facts on Attacks of Sept. 11.”

These sites will blow out of the water the recent scandals by Republicans in the Washington House and Senate.

Someone in this area needs to report the truth on what started the decline of this country.

Darwin Yeary, Weatherford

Two females do not equal two parents

Dear Editor,

A line from a song in the Walt Disney movie “Dumbo” goes like this:

“I be done seen about everything, when I see an elephant fly.”

Recently I thought I’d seen everything when I saw Jenna Wolf on TV and heard her announce she’s pregnant, and she and her girlfriend will soon be parents. (NBC Today Show, March 30).

Two co-hosts were on camera with Jenna. They were agreeable but uncomfortable. If they bought into the notion of two women expecting a baby, then elephants can fly.

Later, I wondered. Was Jenna’s baby conceived by in-vitro fertilization or perhaps by artificial insemination?

Almost without exception, most farms are protected to some degree by guard animals. Dogs and cats are most commonly used to defend against intruders and nuisance pests around the farmstead. In recent years with the proliferation of coyotes, many folks are using guard donkeys or llamas to protect their livestock.

My sister Robbie Benton’s funeral was Friday afternoon at White’s Funeral Home. The gravesite was outside of Mineral Wells. The respect shown by the good folks of Parker County and the surrounding area was overwhelming.

In recent years I’ve written quite a bit about the introduction and negative consequences of non-native or invasive species. Fire ants, killer bees, English sparrows, Asian carp, feral hogs and others too numerous to list have forever changed our local ecosystem.

Have you seen those TV offers where they give a price for one product and then offer a second like items for-free? All you have to do is pay a separate shipping and handling charge for the “free” items.

Names are important. When my son, Rush, (who’s named after my father) and his wife, Vanessa, were expecting their third daughter, I gave up on having a male namesake and suggested, in jest, they call her “Johnnie Pauline.”
