KELLY: A potpourri to think about

Weatherford Democrat

— By WILLIAM J. KELLY

MUMMIES: Mummies of humans living more than 4,000 years ago had clogged arteries as reported by Maria Cheng of the AP. Their eating habits were much different than ours and supposedly more healthy. The lifestyle of those people required more physical work to exist and yet they still had clogged arteries. Does this discovery put into question our present theories on the causes of this condition? What do you think?

MAJ. HASSON: Can you believe the trial for this alleged murderer is just beginning? The judge has stated that it will take about three months to present all the evidence. What a joke! Everyone in the world knows he is guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. This butcher is not mentally ill, he was just carrying out what religious and political ideas he was taught as a Muslim. We need immediate justice for our American victims and their families. He needs to be shot dead, publicly, at Fort Hood so the world can witness it. If Muslims object to that we should just deport them all. What do you think?

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S GOAL: All us voters watching the campaigning of President Obama, at taxpayers’ expense, to try and get the House in Democrat control, as is the Senate, should realize that a divided government, working properly, is the safest one. That is exactly why the founders set up our federal government in this way. It is a large factor in our citizens keeping the freedoms we now have. Functioning properly it will prevent the takeover of our country by some despot. This is known as “the separation of powers” and we should keep this in mind when voting. What do you think?

GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS: I do not know at what college they teach a course I will call, “Lying No. 1.” It seems to me that most politicians, and some news reporters, have taken that course because they are quite adept at it. We have just seen a bushel basket full of lies about the sequester and most of them not challenged by the press corps, radio or television news. In fact the media participated in these lies daily and thus gave the citizens misinformation. It does appear now that citizens are not buying into this propaganda. We citizens have something called the “VOTE” and that is what all politicians fear. If a man or woman in office violate their oath of office or the facts they gave us to get our vote, we should use that vote to remove that person from office. What do you think?

POLITICAL MORALITY: The problem is with we people. We have the mistaken idea that an officeholder should leave his religious training behind when he or she travel to their office. I’m sure all of you have heard that expressed by someone. This thinking has led to terribly bad officeholders at all levels of government. It has led to the passing of laws that violate the Natural Law. Gay marriage and abortion come to mind as two of the worst. These type of things are not Second Amendment rights. People use the expression, “I hope I’m doing the RIGHT thing.” This implies they hope they are doing something either morally good, satisfactory or justified. Politicians in government are giving people so called rights that do not fit that definition. What do you think?

JAMES MADISON: He said, “What is government itself but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary.”

That says a lot! What do you think?

ST. PARICK’S DAY: A day most every one celebrates! Pittsburgh, Pa., where I am from, has a parade second in size only to New York City. I’ll finish this article with a couple of Iris Proverbs and an Irish blessing. But first a limerick! At a bistro, a chap named O’Reilly said:

“I’ve heard these martinis praised heilly,

But there better by far,

At the neighboring bar,

Where they are mixed more smoothly and dreilly.”

Proverb: Let your anger set with the sun and not rise again with it.

Proverb: The jewel most rare is the jewel most fair.

Irish blessing: Ireland, it’s the one place on earth,

That heaven has kissed,

With melody, mirth,

And meadow and mist.

Sure and it’s now the end!
