— Dear Editor,
Our younger generations are starved for real challenges and battles to fight as long as there is a DJ involved.
They want to make a difference, but all they are trying to change is the world according to their current versions of political correctness.
Women fought for women’s lib, African Americans fought for freedom and integration, Jews fought against genocide, atheists fought for no prayer in schools, but what does this generation fight for?
They rally for rape victims while taking “SlutWalks” and yet say monikers such as Washington Redskins are insulting.
The real travesty is that the ones handing out flyers, setting up awareness booths and running in the rallies are not “sluts” or “redskins” but have taken it upon themselves to be offended while the rape victim watches the word slut being bandied about in their honor and the majority of Native Americans are not offended a sports team has Redskins’ pride.
Time to stop play acting and grow up, children. Travesties are not fixed by running 5Ks, trying to change the meaning of a word or taking offense at something that has nothing to do with you.
You want to change the world then stop searching for things to be offended over. Stop talking the talk and walk that walk. You want to help a rape victim? Then become a counselor, set up “safe walk” hotlines, raise money for the victims or get attorneys to take on pro bono cases.
See the six-to-eight young Indians that filed charges for what they are … Native Americans. Indians are gone along with gladiators, Highlanders, knights and conquistadors.
Native Americans have indoor plumbing, AC, cable television and inoculations to smallpox. Yet they want to PC history and take offense at a term that has nothing to do with them now. When they go back to being “Indians” I’ll listen.
Starting a lawsuit where Cowboys, Redskins, Texans, Patriots, Titans, Jets, Panthers, Dolphins, Ravens and Chiefs are heroes on a field of battle is ludicrous. You want your team to be fierce, intelligent and worthy. If football needs to get on the “right side of history” then beware, animal rights activists will be next, saying some teams are promoting animal abuse.
