LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Obamacare is not good for the nation

Weatherford Democrat

Obamacare is not good for the nation

Dear Editor,

The following is in response to Mr. Tilly’s letter to the editor entitled “Obamacare is good for the nation,” published Aug 30.

If Obamacare is so good for the nation why did the Congress recently pass a bill to exempt their staff and themselves from falling under it? In April 2013, Congressman Dave Camp introduced a bill to require federal employees to give up their current health care programs and go under Obamacare. In response, the Congress exempted themselves and the IRS union president of IRS (the agency to administer the program) urged all the employees to write letters to their Congressmen to ensure the bill didn’t pass. I am retired and my insurance will increase over $150 a month on the Obama exchanges.

Also reference your glowing praise of Medicare. One of my friends, who is a doctor, warned me to get all my doctors in place before I’m forced to go on Medicare. He said a lot of the good doctors wont take it because it pays so little. Following his advice, I made an appointment to see a family doctor for an initial visit even though I wasn’t sick. Sure enough, as I’m sitting in the waiting area, I heard the receptionist on the telephone telling someone on the other end that they don’t take Medicaid and no longer take Medicare patients.

I also had a friend in Georgia who recently went on Medicare and was billed by her doctor the difference of what Medicare and her secondary insurance didn’t pay. He had been her doctor for 10 years and told her to go find another doctor if she didn’t want to pay it.

So I don’t share Mr. Tilley’s optimism about the future of health care in general and Obamacare specifically.
