Quilter’s Guild of Parker County presents annual quilt show, raffle

WEATHERFORD — The Quilter’s Guild of Parker County will present its annual Quilt Show “Traditions with a Twist” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Senior Center of Weatherford, 1225 Holland Lake Drive.

In recognition of this event, the Commissioners Court of Parker County has issued a proclamation declaring the week of Sept. 22 through Sept. 28 as Quilting Week in Parker County. The proclamation was issued to recognize the Quilt Guild’s contributions to the community. Since its founding in 2000, the Guild has not only dedicated itself to preserving the art of quilting, to stimulating interest in quilts and quilt making, but has also made significant charitable contributions to the community. The Guild donates a quilt each year to be raffled to raise funds for the Meals-on-Wheels program for the Weatherford Senior Center, and has been successful in raising more that $15,000 for their support. In addition, the Guild has donated more than 600 quilts to children in need and nursing home residents in Parker County, as well as women’s shelters and families moving into homes built by Habitats for Humanity. From a small beginning, the membership of the Guild has grown to more than 130 active members of all ages.

The judged quilt show will feature approximately 100 quilts on display, door prizes, a mini-quilt auction, the drawing for this year’s raffle quilt and booths from area quilt shops. In addition to the quilt, items to be raffled include a new Bernina sewing machine, an antique Singer featherweight sewing machine, and other quilt related items. Proceeds from the quilt show and raffle will benefit Meals-on-Wheels and educational programing for the Guild.
