The Brock varsity tennis team dominated the District 10-2A individual tournament recently, winning its seventh consecutive district championship and sending 10 players to the Class 2A, Region II tournament. The regional tourney will be held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Apr. 16-19. The Peaster and Millsap squads will send two players each, with Godley sending the remaining two.

Brock captured both boys singles slots, with Adam Lessner and Dalton Boles finishing first and second, respectively. Lessner will be making his third trip to regionals and it will be Boles second.

Brock also took first and second in girls’ singles, with Tobi Prater winning first and Alex Rubio taking second. Prater is making her second trip to regional meet.

In girls’ doubles, Brock’s Sierra Potts (fourth return to regionals) and Amy Henard (third trip to regionals) took first, with Godley taking second.

In the boys’ doubles Millsap’s Gabe Knight and Josh Jones won first, with Noah Knox and Coltin Green of Brock taking second. Peaster’s Reid Adams and Hannah Ford won first place in mixed doubles, and Brock’s Brandon Miller and Emily Buck took second.

On Friday, the Brock tennis team traveled to Abilene to play in the Texas Tennis Coaches Association State Team Tennis Tournament, which was originally slated for March, but postponed due to the weather. The match was played at Abilene High and Hardin-Simmons University facilities.

In the semifinals the second-seeded Eagles played the third-seeded Wall Hawks. The match was tied at nine matches apiece, with Brock’s Shelby Lang playing in the 19th and deciding match. The senior won a tough split set match to give Brock the 10-9 win over Wall, and setting up the finals against the Mason Punchers. Seeking its 10th consecutive Class 2A-and-under state team tennis title, Mason lost to the Eagles’ Adam Lessner and Dalton Boles won in No. 1 boys’ doubles and to Colt Abernathy and Brandon Miller in the No. 3 boys’ doubles matches. Overall, the Eagles won eight matches, just two short of the 10 needed for the win, as Mason won the team title, with Brock taking second.
