Ladycats roll over Boswell while Aledo boys fall short

ALEDO — Thanks to an onslaught of offense and several long-range shots, the Aledo Ladycats blew away the Boswell Lady Pioneers Tuesday night, 64-40.

Aledo got off to a 5-0 start after back-to-back field goals from Logan Mittie and Hannah Christian and soon turned that advantage into double-digits, going up 17-7.

The offense kept on coming as the Ladycats made it 26-14 before a Boswell rally got the Pioneers to within nine after a three-pointer to start the second quarter.

Aledo got out in front by as many as 15 before halftime.

With 3:27 left in the third quarter, Mittie had an offensive rebound and putback for a 45-29 game and the offensive barrage continued as shots continued to fall for the Ladycats throughout the game.

Aledo had six players in the scoring column, three of which scored in the double digits.

Taylor Hays led the way with 21 points, followed by Mittie with 17 and Christian with 16 points.

The Ladycats host Azle Friday night at 6 p.m.

A slow start and explosive finish saw the Aledo Bearcats lose a heartbreaker to the Boswell Pioneers Tuesday night, 78-75.

The Bearcats looked to have the early advantage, leading throughout the first three quarters of the game.

Trailing Aledo 61-50 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Pioneers hung around and eventually hit a hot streak to cut the deficit to 72-68 after a three-pointer with 2:19 left in regulation.

The Bearcat offense seemed to be at a standstill and Boswell took advantage to creep up on Aledo and score four points within a 5-second frame to take its first lead of the game at 75-72 with 35 seconds on the clock.

A miscommunication resulted in a Bearcat turnover and the Pioneers got another bucket to push the advantage to five with time running down.

The Bearcats looked to rally as Johnathan Gray’s layup got them back to within three with less than 10 seconds remaining, but Boswell hung on to the ball and ran the clock out to keep the win.

Aledo was 5-of-10 from the free throw line on the night.

Gray topped the Bearcat scoring column with 14 points. Ryan Talley added 12 points and Colton Culberhouse and Dayton Sheridan finished with 11 points.
