WHS gymnasts take first in five-team meet

The Weatherford gymnastics team composed of Ariel Sten, Tamara Sten, Alyssa Roussea, Shea Parrish and Rachel Goodrich combined a total team score for a first place finish against Birdville, Richland Hills, Haltom and Saginaw on Friday, Jan. 9.

Alyssa Roussea placed second in the vault, bars and beam, and was third in the All-Around. Shea Parish placed fourth on the beam, fifth in the floor exercise, and finished sixth in the All-Around. Rachel Goodrich placed third in the vault, fifth on bars, and second on the beam. Ariel Sten, vault specialist, placed seventh.



Roos split contests in DeSoto meet

The Roos soccer team traveled to DeSoto Friday and Saturday in tournament play. On Friday the Roos were defeated in a back-and-forth affair by the Trimble Tech Bulldogs, 3-2. Goals were both scored by Eric Reeves and assisted by Paxton Lanning and Eddie Perez. Saturday, the Roos defeated a talented squad in host-team DeSoto. The lone goal was scored by freshman Luis Salazar and assisted by Carlos Bustamante. The Roos travel to Granbury Tuesday to take on rival Granbury, with the JV playing at 5:30 p.m. and the Varsity at 7 p.m.



Freshman Lady Roos drop decisoin to Abilene

Staff Report

The freshman Lady Roos basketball team lost a hard-fought game to Abilene, Friday. The final score was 62-47. WHS high scorers were Cheyenne Bone with 10 points, Chandler Spooner with nine and Kate Zummo with eight. Kate Zummo led the team in rebounds with six. The frosh girls travel to Haltom Tuesday and return home Friday to take on Richland.



Hall drops two to Acton Middle School

The Lady Pirates from Acton came to the Hall Activity Center Thursday for an exciting evening of basketball. In seventh-grade A team action, the Lady Roos kept it close throughout the game, coming up short in a 28-22 final. Leading the scoring was Elizabeth Konig with seven points and Bailey Merryman with six. Aiden Pool added four points, while Sidney Wimberly and Faith Woodring each added two points apiece. Courtney Cleveland finished the scoring with one point.

In eighth-grade A team action, The Acton Lady Pirates built up a big lead before the Lady Roos of Hall began chipping away at the lead. Time ran out on Hall, and they lost 26-21. Tyler Wimberly led the scoring for Hall with six points. Alexis Garner added four, while Autumn Gieger, Scarlett Ferguson, Claire Wilson, Ashley Waller, and Macie McMurry each scored 2 points. Samantha Steffler finished the night with one point.



Hall places second in home tourney

Hall Middle School hosted the Darla Jefferson-Polk Memorial Basketball Tournament over the weekend. The Hall Lady Roo’s seventh-grade A team opened Friday against the Azle Forte Lady Hornets. Hall took control early and never relinquished the lead in a 42-34 victory. Leading the charge was Faith Woodring with 13 points and Elizabeth Konig with 12 points. Courtney Cleveland added 10 points and Bailey Merryman had five. Minden Miles finished the scoring spree with two.

In second round action, the Lady Roos faced the Brewer Lady Bears. It was a tight game for three quarters, until Hall broke open the game in the final quarter, winning easily, 45-31, to advance to the championship game. Faith Woodring paced the Lady Roo’s with 14 points. Courtney Cleveland and Elizabeth Konig each added 12. Ronnie Middleton chipped in three points,while Bailey Bakouris and Tiffany Grumbles each scored two points.

In the championship game the Burleson Hughes Lady Huskies beat the Lady Roos in a close match, 33-29. Elizabeth Konig led Hall with eight points. Courtney Cleveland and Faith Woodring each had seven. Ronnie Middleton had five points and Baley Merryman added two.



Hall, Tison vie in weekend tourney

The Hall Lady Roos eighth-grade team opened Friday night action in the Darla Jefferson-Polk Memorial tournament against the Azle Forte Lady Hornets. The Lady Roos took control of the game early, cruising to a 45-24 victory. Samantha Steffler paced the Lady Roos with seven points. Tyler Wimberly, Macie McMurry, and Alexis Garner each added six. Marissa Jewell and Katarina Barrow each chipped in five points, while Claire Wilson and Ashley Waller scored four points, each. Scarlett Ferguson finished the game with two points. Autumn Gieger played outstanding defense in the win.

The second-round matchup found the Lady Roos playing the Azle Junior High Lady Hornets. A close game found Hall and Azle tied at the end of regulation and the Lady Roo’s advancing to the championship game with a 30-27 overtime victory. Tyler Wimberly led Hall with nine points, while Katarina Barrow added seven points. Samantha Steffler and Marissa Jewel each had four points. Scarlett Ferguson had three points and Hannah Blaisdell added two. Macie McMurry finished the second game with a point.

The championship game found the Hall Lady Roo’s facing cross-town rival Tison. The game was close until Tison took control in the second quarter to pull away for a 45-27 victory. Hall settled for second place, with Tyler Wimberly, Samantha Steffler, and Marissa Jewell each having six points in the game. Kataina Barrow added three. Scarlett Ferguson, Claire Wilson, and Macie McMurry finished the night with two points, each.
