Stadium on track for opener in Millsap

For most residents in and around Parker County the hot, dry summer has been an issue of discomfort for most of the season, but there have been some benefits as well.

Millsap Independent School District, like Aledo a couple of years ago, is having a new football stadium built at the high school campus and is expecting that stadium to be ready for the Sept. 19 home opener against Venus.

“Everything is on schedule right now,” said Millsap ISD Athletic Director Matt Adams. “It looks like we are going to play our first home varsity game here on Sept. 19.

“The weather, really for us, has cooperated because we haven’t had hardly any weather delays at all. The bad news is, it’s dry and we could use some rain as far as the ground and grass go. The good news is, it doesn’t halt construction.”

Adams said he is expecting to have another Midnight Madness prior to the start of the 2008 season, which will not only introduce the new teams and participants, but also the new stadium, which is something many fans are eager to see.

“I have heard a lot of real positive feedback,” Adams said. “We have had several people call wanting to know when they can purchase season tickets, which is a first as far as I know in Millsap.”

Adams said much of the excitement about the new stadium stems from the fact that fans and people in the community can see the progress as the facility comes together. He added that certain aspects of the new stadium may have even caught some people by surprise.

“I think just the overall look of the bleachers and the stadium now that it’s complete [has been a surprise],” Adams said. “The bleachers are probably 99 percent complete right now and I think they have surpassed everyone’s expectations.”

Of course with all the phone calls about tickets and the construction itself, Adams has a lot more work to do, but he said he doesn’t mind that a bit.

“That doesn’t bother me at all,” he said. “That’s what we’re here for is to give this community something to be proud of.”

Millsap opens the 2008 season with road meetings against Rio Vista and Muenster on Sept. 5 and Sept. 12 before making their home debut against Venus on Sept. 19.
