Godby heads to Howard Payne University

Jordan Godby has spent a good portion of his young life donning catcher’s gear, keeping base runners in check and helping pitchers get through tough innings. Although, the past couple of years he has spent more time helping his pitchers celebrate wins instead of leading them out of trouble. He gets to continue plying this trade at the collegiate level when he heads to the academic halls and the baseball diamond at Howard Payne University later this month.

Godby is understandably pumped about getting the chance to perpetuate doing something that he loves, while continuing his education.

“I’m excited about getting to play baseball in college,” Godby said. “I’ve always wanted to do this. I can’t wait to get started at the next level.”

The former Brock student has enjoyed and contributed to the success of a very good program at the high school level and hopes that he can help further success for the Yellow Jackets.

“I like the school, the coach and the [baseball] program,” Godby said. “I also like that [HPU] is a Christian-based school. And my sister is already a student there.”

Godby was not only proficient while helping direct the defense from behind the plate, but put up some very good offensive numbers at Brock. The catcher hit .472 during his senior year for the Eagles and crossed the plate 54 times. Though looking forward to playing as soon as possible for Howard Payne, Godby knows that there is a bit of hard work ahead of him to get in the lineup on a frequent basis.

“The [HPU head] coach told me that there would be a chance of getting some playing time,” Godby said, “but that it really depended on how much work I’ve done in the offseason.”

Godby plans to enter classes seeking a business degree with an emphasis in marketing.
