WEATHERFORD — Lady Roos improve district standing with sweep of Haltom

The Lady Roos varsity hosted Haltom Friday, defeating the Lady Buffalos in 3 games. After an extended first game, the Weatherford girls swept Haltom, 28-26, 25-22, 25-21.

Mackenzie Lankford led the Lady Roos with 14 kills and also had 11 digs. Megan Askew led defensively with 13 digs, adding four kills. Shelby Newberry and Taylor Jones had six and five kills, respectively. Racquel Busby led sets with 15 assists, while Alex Geiger had 10. Kelsey Thompson led all servers with four aces.

With the District 3-5A win, the varsity improves to 7-3 in district, and 23-13 overall.

The ninth grade A and B teams defeated Haltom in two games in each of their matches. The junior varsity fell in two games to the Lady Buffs.

The volleyball teams travel to Paschal on Tuesday.



JV comes up short against Buffs

The Roos junior varsity football team traveled to Haltom City Thursday, falling to the Buffalos, 26-12. Both of the Roos scores were big plays. Weatherford’s Hayden Trimble scored on a 60-yard touchdown run. Zach Butler connected to Chris Sanders on a 70 yard touchdown pass.



Tison takes Acton to three in three matches

The Tison seventh grade Lady Roos made Granbury Acton fight for every game Thursday, but came up short in all three contests.

The C Team won its first game 25-23, and then lost the next two, 21-25, 10-25. Kaitlyn Catron, Katie Hardison, and Robyn Dyson served well and Rachel Dean had several defensive saves.

The B Team was a little slow to start, but took Acton to three games. Losing the first game 16-25, the Lady Roos came back to win the second 25-22, helped by the serving of Corrine LoBrandon and Phyllisha Lang’s impressive hit from the back row. The Lady Roos lost the final game, 20-25. Abby Curry and Mackenzie Sterner helped keep the match close for the Lady Roos.

The A Team’s extended first game was a nail biter, with the Lady Roos coming out on top, 30-29. With great assists from Courtney Cox, Chelsey Bransford the Lady Roos was able to keep the attack active on Acton. Peyton Sefcik carded several aces, while Lauren Anderson had several point-saving digs, helped with some nice blocks from Kim Novak. The Lady Roos lost the next two games 13-25, 16-25, but the score did not reflect the long rallies and the numerous saves on both sides of the net. Chelsea Freeman had a very active and productive match, with more than 40 serves and 15 solid spikes.

Tison hosts Hall Thursday, at 5 p.m.
