Area football standings - 10/27/09

Staff Report

Football coaches don't like to talk about playoffs with more than one game left in a district schedule, but with just two games left, possibilities are within grasp for all Parker County teams.

The Roos climbed to sole possession of the fourth spot in District 3-5A with the win over Richland last week, and are in the driver's seat of the control-your-own-fate vehicle, with North Crowley and Burleson, their last two foes, a game back in the standings. A win-out would give Weatherford a valid shot at finishing third outright, with Haltom facing a very angry Richland in its finale.

Aledo has already clinched a playoff spot, with most eyes on the impending Birdville match to determine the District 6-4A title holder. Springtown will be rooting for Boswell to beat Saginaw Friday, and for themselves to beat Azle Friday, to set up a deciding game for the fourth seed in the district.

Millsap helped themselves tremendously last week with the win over Paradise. A victory over Chico Friday will all but assure a top-three finish in District 9-2A, and thus, a trip to postseason play, but the pack is still thick in the middle of the standings. A big showdown could be in the offing in the finale week, but the Bulldogs need to take care of Chico, first.
